Movies I'd LOVE to see...
Freedom to Fascism
http://www.freedomtofascism.com/
Why? Watch the preview... this is about our government and what is going on in our country right now.

American Dreamz

The preview I saw on tv mentioned "in a country where more people vote for their next pop idol rather than their next president..." Seems like it will be funny, but still make a valid political statement... let's hope.

Thank You For Smoking

What's "good, and what's "bad"? It all depends on how you spin it.

Paradise Now

I was told that this movie examines the motives of terrorism and what the thinking behind it is. When we're at war supposedly because of terrorism, shouldn't we try to understand the people and thinking behind it?

I feel like I need to pay better attention to the world around me, and need to take action to create a more positive, and peaceful world.

EDIT *NEED TO ADD MORE*

V for Vendetta

Didn't really want to see it... the mask just seems goofy to me, but anyone who's seen it has told me that it's awesome and amazingly politically charged. Now I want to see it.

The problem I have with V for Vendetta is that it tries to tie you down and shove its political messages down your throat. No subtlety there -- rather clumsily done.

That's really too bad. I haven't seen it yet, but I want to, as soon as it goes to DVD. What did you think of the movie as a whole? Just cheesy, or was it good at all?

It was definitely entertaining -- certain elements seemed to draw from Phantom of the Opera (masked deformed guy falls in love w/ girl) and dystopias such as that in 1984.

I found the first half much more engaging than the last half. For what it's worth, I'm in the middle politically, and anytime something gets too preachy (on either side) I just roll my eyes. There were very strong allusions to the Iraq war and how it (in the story) leads to the downfall of the United States, as well as some parts where the United States and Britain (where the movie takes place) are compared to Naziism. Though brief in the movie, I find that type of stuff rather tasteless -- I'd prefer a movie be a bit more intelligent if it seeks to deliver a message -- especially if it tries to be as self-important as I felt this one did.

The dialogue in the movie is definitely clever, and the love story intriguing.. but on the whole it was disappointing.

I thought that the biggest message that was political from the movie was partisipate in what's going on, and dictatorships are bad. Good messages I thought. Oh ya, and seperate church and state. Some of my family are very conservitive and christian and as much as I hate to admit it I think that they might be okay with locking up muslems and homosexuals.
I could see what happened in V happening in real life, and if it did happen you would need some thing big and dramatic to change a world so far gone.

I formally retract my statements about v for vendetta. I find it a really cool movie now.

No, no myspace.
V for Vendetta is very good. I just bought it. The Graphic Novel is pretty good too, but dated. They re-vamped the comic for slightly so it is fucture-preasent.
Thank you for smoking was suprisingly good. I was expecting a 'Bowling for Columbine' kind of thing, but no this was a real movie. Very good.
